L'Oréal Paris spokesmodel Liya Kebede, born 3 January 1978 in Addis-Abebe, was discovered by a model agency at the age of 18 whilst still at school in France before embarking on a career in New York and appearing on the cover of Vogue no less than 3 times. She has also done runways for Gucci.
Liya has more than one string to her bow, counting an acting career among her many accomplishments. She has starred in various feature-films, including The Good Shepherd in 2006 alongside Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie, and Desert Flower also in 2006.
As well as being an internationally renowned supermodel, Liya also dedicates her spare time to a number of humanitarian causes. She was appointed as the WHO's Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child health, before going on to create her own organisation, The Liya Kebede Foundation, which is aimed especially at raising funds for hospitals worldwide.
Creator of her own clothing label, Lemlem, she draws attention to the talents of African craftsmen as a designer. Ambitious, discerning and kind-hearted, in 2011 Liya was invited to be a L'Oréal spokesperson and the rest, as they say, is history.
